Medicare Rebate

Medicare rebates apply for sexual and mental health problems under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (GPMHTP) or referral from your psychiatrist. You can claim a Medicare rebate on up to 10 sessions per calendar year.  Your initial referral is for up to 6 sessions and is valid for 1 year. You will need to return to see your GP or psychiatrist after 6 sessions for review. It is advisable that you book your appointment with your referring doctor after our 5th session.

The Medicare Rebate for 2017 is $84.50 per session. Thus you will be out of pocket $100.50 for individual consultations and for couples $ 125.50. This out of pocket expense can be added to your Medicare Safety Net amount.  The Medicare Safety Net for individuals and families is $2000; ($610.70 for Commonwealth Concession cardholders and families who receive Family Tax Benefit (part A). Individuals are automatically registered, however all families and couples need to register. Click to register.

Additional sessions (more than 10 session per calendar year) cannot be claimed under Medicare or added to your Medicare Safety Net and may be best claimed under private health insurance cover.

You can not claim both Medicare and Private health insurance rebate on the same consultation.
