Medicare Rebate
Medicare rebates apply for sexual and mental health problems under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (GPMHTP) or referral from your psychiatrist. See GPMHTP Medicare Fact Sheet. You can claim a Medicare rebate on up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Your initial referral is for up to 6 sessions and is valid for 1 year. You will need to return to see your GP or psychiatrist after 6 sessions for review. It is advisable that you book your appointment with your referring doctor after our 5th session.
The Medicare Rebate for 2022 -2023 is $131.65 per session.
This out of pocket expense can be added to your Medicare Safety Net Threshold. The 2022 Medicare Safety Net threshold for individuals and families is $2414; $697 for Commonwealth Concession cardholders and families who receive Family Tax Benefit Part A. Once you reach this threshold you will get 80% Rebate on ALL Medicare bills.
Individuals are automatically registered, however all families and couples need to register. Click to register.
Additional sessions (more than 10 session per calendar year) cannot be claimed under Medicare or added to your Medicare Safety Net and may be best claimed under private health insurance cover.
You can not claim both Medicare and Private health insurance rebate on the same consultation.
