Our culture can not talk honestly about sex and gender. We don’t have the language, and we don’t have permission. This leaves many people feeling isolated and alone.
Therapy involves identifying your goals, eliciting your strengths and addressing the obstacles. We examine how you relate to yourself and others, how your desires, emotional needs, attitudes, behaviour and past history combine to create your current experience. We may find that your sexual issue represents a general behavioural pattern, or that your concern is confined to intimate or romantic relationships. Sometimes sexual issues occur with mental or physical illness, others are a result of a significant life event, and of course our sexuality changes as we age.
I see clients face to face and over Telehealth.
I see clients individually, as couples or polyamorous relationships. During individual therapy, I may suggest that your partner attend to receive education on treatment or to provide collateral information to assist in treatment.
I draw upon several different models of treatment:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Schema Therapy
- Behavioural Sex Therapy
- Prolonged Exposure for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
- Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
- Relaxation Training
- Structured Problem Solving
- Motivational Interviewing
- Sexuality and Gender counselling
- Somatic Therapy
